2013 RESEARCH SURVEYS OFF THE WELSH COAST

We will run three multi-disciplinary research cruises in 2013, on the RV Prince Madog. The cruises will visit north-, mid- and south-Wales and aim to provide businesses with an opportunity to utilise the facilities offered by SEACAMS for offshore work.

The cruises offer opportunities to:

  • deploy marine instrumentation on moorings for extended periods of time. We have instrumentation that can be used to measure currents, water depth, underwater visibility, water temperature and salinity.
  • collect current, temperature, salinity, underwater visibility and oxygen measurements and water and seafloor sediment samples (e.g. see above) at different locations by conducting spatial surveys and transects.
  • map the seafloor using our state of the art multibeam system e.g. image bottom left.
  • test instrumentation or equipment designed by a company.
  • conduct bird and mammal surveys.
  • visualise the sea floor using our stills or video camera systems e.g. photo bottom right.

If you are a marine business interested in getting involved with these surveys please contact the SEACAMS team. We are not limited to the activities above, so if there is something you would like to do on the RV Prince Madog please let us know.
